Balete Park (Baler, Aurora)

The park contains a 600-year-old balete tree that was designated the official "Millennium Tree" of The Philippines. It is the largest tree of its kind in Asia, and it would take 60 grown men, holding one another at arm's length, to encircle its gigantic trunk.

Due to its age, the tree's thick roots have grown above ground, such that caves have formed under various sections of the trunk. This unique tree has generated national media attention and is now the most visited tourist spot in Aurora. (from Discover Aurora)

Note: Signs going to Balete Park are misleading. You will have a hard time finding it even if you ask for directions. So better to hire a tricyle in Maria Aurora (you will be helping the locals too) to bring you there.

Note 2: There is no entrance fee to enter the Park. And there are obvious signs of neglect. The concerned Officials should do something in taking care of the surrounding area of the Tree. They should also add a bit of information about the tree (like its history, size, actual age if they know, etc).
